Baked rounds on hearth or coals: simple travel food and a recurring image of readiness (or neglect).

Scripture

Genesis 18:6

6 Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Quickly prepare three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes."

1 Kings 19:6

6 He looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on the coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank, and laid down again.

Hosea 7:8

8 Ephraim, he mixes himself among the nations. Ephraim is a pancake not turned over.
