Daniel's Mourning

21 days

Partial fasting associated with mourning and seeking understanding.

Daniel’s mourning includes a restrained diet and a sustained period of seeking. This is a useful example for distinguishing total abstinence from partial fasting, and for showing how fasting can be associated with grief, intercession, and discernment.

Scripture

Daniel 10:2-3

2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three whole weeks.

3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine into my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, until three whole weeks were fulfilled.
